Toronto-based Wattpad has tapped longtime exec Jeanne Lam to become its first president.
Lam has been tasked with leading the company “through a period of continued global growth and innovation,” the company said in a release.
She will report to CEO and co-founder Allen Lau, who described her track record leading growth initiatives like subscription tier Wattpad Premium and the platform’s creator monetization tier as the kind of skills she will bring to the “next phase of [Wattpad's] evolution.”
Lam has been with Wattpad for over six years, becoming its general manager in 2017 and being elevated to chief business officer last fall. Prior to joining the company, she had senior marketing and business consulting roles in the U.S., including at 3D printing company Shapeways, mobile payment company GoPago and Yahoo.
In January, Wattpad was acquired by South Korea internet company Naver, which – in addition to operating search engine, ecommerce, cloud storage and digital payment services – also owns self-publishing platform Webtoon. Wattpad has said the acquisition is helping drive further innovation at the company – growth initiatives it has added since include Wattpad Brand Originals, an offering to develop branded TV, film, audio and digital media projects.
Wattpad also says it plans to add nearly 100 new roles across engineering, marketing and content before the year is finished.
